Bees

This is a long overdue post.  When we were looking at this property, there was a very large and active beehive in what we are calling the garden field.  We were pretty excited about buying the land with an active beehive.  Didn't think to tell the previous owners to leave the hive as part of what we were buying.  Unfortunately, they must have been told by the relocation company to get the bees off the land - and honestly, I guess it would be a little worse that than leaving something like your pets on the land when you move.  So the day before they turned it over to the relocation company, they had it moved by The Carolina Bee Company (TCBC).  As it turned out, I happened to be doing some research on bees and landed on a post the folks at TCBC wrote about moving an old beehive.  When I looked at the pictures, I realized it was the beehive that was on our farm.  So it's cool to see some good pictures and read about the story of the move:

The pictures below are the ones that I took of the nuc box that was left on the property.  Our friend, John English, a gifted beekeeper in his own right, saw these pictures and some videos I took and suggested these bees were simply robbing the nuc box of honey.  Unfortunately, somebody came and STOLE this nuc box while we were in the processing of buying the property.

Now we're in the process of searching out a proper home for bees that we will purchase, as well as taking classes to become licensed beekeepers.  We can't wait to have our own bees.
