Fixing doors
This morning's project on the farm: fixing doors. Problem - doors are too tight and don't close easily. Solution - setting the hinges deeper. A little chisel work and voila, problem solved. Also, provided another great opportunity to teach Isaac how to work with tools.
Another note - the doors are solid, but unlike what the previous own said, they're not solid oak. They are partly particle board with oak veneer. Still, they're nice heavy doors. But a bunch of them don't fit into the openings. One of the worst was the master bathroom door. It was driving us crazy!
So Isaac and I fixed it this morning.
It becomes increasingly apparent to me how important it is to not only teach children how to do things, but allow them to do it. Sure, it is easier, faster, and perhaps safer to do it yourself, but they won't learn any other way. And if we don't teach them to do it properly and allow them to do things for themselves, we shouldn't complain about their lack of common sense, knowledge, and skill.
Train the young in the way they should go;
even when old, they will not swerve from it.
Proverbs 22:6
