We Have Chickens

So we've entered the world of livestock.  I'm coming back to this post which I originally put up with just two pictures.  We now have 34 birds of many different breeds in the flock.  They should lay a wide variety of egg colors from light blue and green to dark chocolate brown.  They will be free ranging.  The good news is that Kolbe, our German Shepherd, has little interest in the chickens and can stay outside with them most of the day to protect from predators.

We're also babysitting nine hens and a rooster from St. Thomas More Academy for the summer.  They get to occupy our coop until school starts back and then our birds get to make the move from the chicken tractor to the coop.

God willing we don't lose a number of birds between now and then, we hope to start having at least two dozen eggs a day in September.
